Offering Empowering Wisdom for a New Generation
of Father-and-Son Relationships

Joseph Cohen & Christopher Salem

Two Authors, Speakers & Fathers Present a Much-Needed
Workshop on an Important Yet Often Overlooked Aspect of Parenting

The signs can be seen in bullying incidents and low self-esteem, in increasing rates of teenage suicide and in the disturbingly frequent school shootings.  These incidents are all “red flags” that call attention to one aspect of parenting that continues to receive far too little attention – the relationship between fathers and sons.  United in their concern for America’s current generation of young men, Joseph Cohen and Christopher Salem – both authors, speakers, and fathers who care deeply about their sons – have designed a workshop that will provide fathers with the insight, information and tools they need in order to play a more engaged, supportive and influential role in the lives of their sons.  (The fathers of daughters will benefit from this workshop too, of course!)

A longtime New York City public school teacher and freelance journalist, Joseph Cohen noticed that there was very little information available to fathers seeking information on how they might bring out the best in their sons.  Fortunately, Joseph – along with his son Jared – have taken action to fill that void with their new book Write Father, Write Son: A Bond-Building Journey (Forever Young Press, 2017), consisting of the letters that father and son exchanged over the course of a decade.  As they offer encouragement and share their love for one another, Joseph and Jared touch upon many of life’s most challenging concerns including love, death, politics and the search for meaning in the world.  Spanning the years from middle school to Jared’s high school days as he was preparing to enter college, through his graduation and journey into the world on his own, the letters capture the evolution of both individuals in a powerful and inspiring way.

Also a dedicated father, Christopher Salem is the author of Master Your Inner Critic: Resolve the Root Cause, Create Prosperity (Hybrid Global Publishing, 2016).  He is an ideal leader to help the fathers who participate in this workshop recognize the obstacles and barriers that may be preventing them from engaging fully in an empowering relationship with their children and show them a path that will lead to the results they envision.  As a world-class speaker and award-winning author, Christopher Salem has a successful track record helping his coaching clients and those who participate in his workshop break through barriers that have been holding them back.

Together, Joseph Cohen and Christopher Salem will introduce workshop participants to a number of important and empowering principles:

  • How to lay the foundation for an empowering and supportive relationship that will lead to a lifelong father-son bond
  • Constructive ways fathers can help their sons transform the challenges that will inevitably surface into opportunities for growth
  • Why open and thought-provoking conversation and construction communication between father and son (at every stage) is essential for self-esteem, happiness, and sustainable success
  • Developing a Prosperity Mindset – and why alignment of health and business/life success is essential
  • How to create a blueprint based on a shared vision for an empowering future

Workshop Description: Mastering the Father-Son Bond Building Process

Improving the parent-child relationship begins with a parent’s willingness to engage their child in open communication and a child’s willingness to participation in the process.

While there are many ways for a parent to start a conversation with their child, sustaining a meaningful dialogue and resolving challenging issues requires the proper tools to get the job done.

This workshop will introduce a process that Joseph Cohen, a former New York City middle and high school teacher and freelance journalist, used throughout the book he wrote with his son, Jared entitled Write Father, Write Son: A Bond-Building Journey. It will provide a framework for constructive communication that can unify other families and strengthen intergenerational relationships.

This bond building process revolves around effectively addressing three essential questions:

Do you see me? – Acknowledging and praising recent accomplishments to open a meaningful dialogue.

Can You Hear Me? – Listening without judgement to identify challenging issues and develop a conversation.

What Can You Teach Me? – Providing constructive feedback and introducing a solution or fresh perspective upon which both parent and child can act.
